If Sätze im Englischen: Conditional Sentences einfach erklärt
Typische Signalwörter sind if, unless, when, provided that und as long as. (z. B.: If you hurry, you will catch the bus.)
Was sind If Sätze?
Beispiel:
If the sun shines tomorrow (Bedingung), I will go to the park (Folge).
Ein Konditionalsatz hat also zwei Teile:
- If-Satz: die Bedingung
- Hauptsatz: die Folge
Beispiele:
- If you heat water to 100°C (Bedingung), it boils (Folge).
- If I won the lottery (Bedingung), I would travel the world (Folge).
- If she studies every day (Bedingung), she improves quickly (Folge).
- If they had left earlier (Bedingung), they would have arrived on time (Folge).
Achte auf unless: Es bedeutet if not und enthält die Verneinung schon in sich. Unless you hurry, you will miss the bus.
If Clauses im Überblick
| Typ | Situation | Struktur | Funktion | Beispiel |
| Zero Conditional | Fakten und allgemeine Wahrheiten | If + Simple Present, Simple Present | Dinge, die immer gelten, Naturgesetze und Regeln | If you freeze water, it becomes ice. |
| First Conditional | Reale Möglichkeit in der Zukunft | If + Simple Present, will + Verb | Realistische Folgen in der Zukunft | If it rains, we will cancel the trip. |
| Second Conditional | Unreale Gegenwart | If + Simple Past, would + Verb | Vorstellungen und Situationen, die gerade nicht zutreffen | If I had more time, I would learn Spanish. |
| Third Conditional | Unreale Vergangenheit | If + Past Perfect, would have + Past Participle | Bedauern und Dinge, die nicht passiert sind | If she had studied, she would have passed. |
Zero Conditional: Fakten und allgemeine Wahrheiten
Diesen Typ nutzt du für Naturgesetze, feste Regeln und alles, was immer zutrifft.
Struktur: If + Simple Present, Simple Present
Beispiele:
- If you mix red and blue, you get purple.
- If people don't eat, they get hungry.
- If you heat ice, it melts.
First Conditional: reale Möglichkeit in der Zukunft
Struktur: If + Simple Present, will + Verb
Beispiele:
- If I finish work early, I will call you.
- If they study, they will pass the test.
- If it snows, we will build a snowman.
Second Conditional: unreale Gegenwart
Struktur: If + Simple Past, would + Grundform
Beispiele:
- If I were rich, I would buy a yacht.
- If she knew the answer, she would tell us.
- If we lived by the sea, we would swim every day.
Im if-Satz steht bei to be in allen Personen were, nicht was: If I were you.
Third Conditional: unreale Vergangenheit
Struktur: If + Past Perfect, would have + Past Participle
Beispiele:
- If he had left earlier, he would have caught the train.
- If they had listened, they would have understood.
- If I had studied, I would have passed the exam.
Mixed Conditionals
If + Simple Past, would have + Past Participle
If we were smarter, we wouldn't have set off in this weather.
If + Past Perfect, would + Grundform
If you had checked the weather, we wouldn't be stranded now.
Inverted Conditionals: If weglassen
- Had she known about the traffic, she would have left earlier.
- Were I in your position, I would accept the offer.
Richtig ist Had she not known, nicht Hadn't she known.
Ausnahmen bei If Sätzen
| Regel | Erklärung | Beispiel |
| would im if-Satz | would gehört in den Hauptsatz, nicht in den if-Satz. | Falsch: If I would see her, I would tell her. Richtig: If I see her, I will tell her. |
| Modalverben im Hauptsatz | can, could, may, might oder should ersetzen will. | If you study hard, you can pass the test. |
| when statt if | Beim Zero Conditional kannst du when verwenden, weil die Aussage immer gilt. | When you heat ice, it melts. |
| Komma weglassen | Steht der Hauptsatz vorn, brauchst du kein Komma. | I will call you if I arrive early. |
